Towards a New Earth Ethic

Here is a video with the renowned scientist Fritjof Capra on the Earth Charter and the universal values of human dignity and human behavior for the common good. We share two communities to which we all belong: we are members of humanity and members of the biosphere, the community of life. Respect for human dignity, basic human rights, and non-interference with the web of life’s inherent ability to sustain life, together form the essence of ecological sustainability.

The Earth Charter is a unique document on the essential values and principles for our Earth household called Oikos. Towards a New Earth Ethic is a slogan of the Earth Charter movement. Visit the Earth Charter at http://earthcharter.org.

We stand at a critical moment in Earth’s history, a time when humanity must choose its future. As the world becomes increasingly interdependent and fragile, the future at once holds great peril and great promise. To move forward we must recognize that in the midst of a magnificent diversity of cultures and life forms we are one human family and one Earth community with a common destiny.
